Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy

Dr. Kriste Babbitt, MD, and I collaborate to provide a curated and individualized approach to ketamine-assisted psychotherapy. We view this treatment as a journey, and an initial experience with ketamine can work as a change agent that becomes integrated at deeper levels over time. Individuals who have been in therapy for some time, but are struggling to garner movement or feel “blocked” in a critical way are ideal for the type of KAP Dr. Babbitt and I provide. While we consider the unique needs of each individual during treatment planning, our experience has shown that this type of therapy is most effective when patients commit to a minimum of three sessions in order to determine an optimal dose and to begin to develop a cadence, or flow, within the process. We have observed the most consistent and optimal results with an induction phase of six once-weekly sessions before considering a maintenance regimen and/or a return to one's pre-existing psychotherapeutic approaches.

If interested, please take a look at this page to gain a detailed understanding of the process. Please email me if you would like to schedule a consultation.

Step 1 - Consultation

50 minutes.  The consultation and alliance-building period will require one to three sessions. I will begin to understand your story, your goals for KAP, and your current psychotherapeutic support. I will be able to answer initial questions about the experience and you will assess, together, whether our services and your needs are aligned. We will work to build sufficient mutual understanding and trust to create a safe space for the work.

Step 2 - Medical Intake with Kriste Babbitt, MD

60 minutes.  You will meet with Dr. Babbitt in person only (no telehealth). This appointment will cover your past psychiatric, medical, family, and social histories, standardized symptom assessments, evaluation of vital signs and a focused physical exam as needed. Dr. Babbitt will take a close look at your current medication regimen and any health conditions to ensure medical appropriateness for ketamine use, and make recommendations, if needed, to prepare you for the journey. She will also coordinate with any medical providers (Psychiatrists, Primary Care) as needed, with your written permission.  During this appointment we will review the medical informed consent and how the risk/benefit profile of KAP applies to you as a unique individual.

Step 3 - In-Office KAP Session

3 hours.  Arrival, settling into the space, intention-setting, medical assessment and sign-off, ketamine dose, journey, post-journey integrative psychotherapy, and medical clearance. You will not be permitted to drive yourself home after the journey.

Step 4 - Post-Journey Integration Sessions

45 minutes. These sessions are an essential part of the work and will be scheduled as needed on an individual basis. I will coordinate with your regular individual therapist to ensure your work is primed to continue its evolution even after your session(s) with me are complete.
